About California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire)
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is commonly known as Cal Fire.
This fire department is directly authorized by a state cabinet-level agency known as the California Natural Resources Agency.
This department was founded 136 years ago in the year 1885. Cal fire is responsible for preventing fire in the forest on around 31 million acres of land.
It is well equipped with 237 owned /operated stations, 575 operation stations, 356 owned/operated engines, 624 operated engines, 28 trucks, 61 bulldozers, 63 paramedic units, 184 rescues, 30 air tankers, 16 tactical planes, and 24 helicopters. Presently 5300 full-time professionals, 2600 seasonal firefighters, 600 volunteers in prevention, and 3500 inmates and wards are operating under the management of Fire Chief & Director Mr. Dave Fulcher.
